The 2013 International Lazar Khidekel Award for Young Architects

The award winners were announced for the XXII World Festival and Competition of Graduate Qualification Works on Architecture and Design.

XXII World Festival and Competition of Graduate Qualification Works on Architecture and Design

XXII International Review Competition of graduation qualifying works on architecture and design took place in Saint-Petersburg State University of Architecture and Civil Engineering, from September 22 to 29, 2013.It included the competition in architecture and design, contest on architectural graphics and drawing, as well as the competition "Innovative architectural approaches -- Visionary of the XXI Century - Lazar Khidekel Award.

More than 600 works on architecture and design from 67 Russian and  international  schools were submitted to the Jury:

On Sept. 27, the award winners were announced. In addition to Diploma of the I, II and III classes, many graduates were awarded top honors: Diplomas of The Union of Architects of Russia (CA Code), The International Association of Unions of Architects (MASA), The Russian Academy of Architecture and Building Sciences (RAASN), The Association of Landscape Architects of Russia (ALAROS), The Union of Designers (SD) and the diploma of The Union of Moscow Architects (UIA).

The Lazar Khidekel Award for the innovative approaches to architecture was awarded to a graduate student of Saint-Petersburg State University of Architecture and Civil Engineering, Tatyana Kovalenko, who presented for review competition the work, "Maritime Centre in Kronstadt." Honorable Mention were awarded to: Nadezhda Istomina - "Museum of the Arctic Convoys of World War II in the city of Arkhangelsk (Museum of Northern Convoy Epic)" (MARCHI) and Daria Krasnova for PhD research, "Avant-garde Architecture and Modernism, 1920-1930 " (NNGASU).

Saint-Petersburg State University of Architecture and Civil Engineering was charged to organize XXII World Festival and Competition of Graduate Qualification Works on Architecture and Design in 2013 according to the decision of the Council of Interregional Social Organization for Advancement of Architectural Education and leading coordinators of the Russian professional architectural education: Academic Association of Russian Higher Education Institutions for Architectural Education, Union of Architects of Russia, International Association of Unions of Architects, Russian Academy of Architecture and Construction Sciences, Society of Designers of Russia.

Within the festival following activities are organized:

  • Competition of graduation qualification works on architecture and design

  • International scientific-methodological conference -- “Architectural Space of XXI Century: Experience, Challenges, Prospects"

  •  Innovatuve engineering solutions in architecture

  •  Interaction between architectural and engineering thresholds in architectural work
